When planning your wedding there are so many wedding professionals to book and items to purchase and every penny adds up…FAST!
Here is one simple way to save a few bucks: Use standard postage on your wedding invitations.
When the time comes to drop your wedding invitations in the mail, you’ll finally feel a great sense of relief. Whew — only a few months to go! Everything is planned, purchased, scheduled. Then… dun, dun, dun, you walk in to the post office to send out your invitations and “What?!? You’re kidding!” You find out each of your invites needs additional postage, an extra stamp, more money out of your pocket.
Here’s the dirt:
Letters weighing less than one ounce can be sent through the US Postal System for the cost of a regular first class postage stamp. So, first, be sure your invitations will weigh less than one ounce. Then, check that your invitations are free from any of the following, which, according to the US Postal Service website, will incur an additional $.20 surcharge on one ounce or less envelopes:
•It is a square letter
•It contains very rigid items such as wood or metal
•It has clasps, string, buttons, or similar closure devices
•It has an address parallel to the shorter dimension of the letter
•It contains items such as pens that cause the surface to be uneven
•The length divided by height is less than 1.3 or more than 2.5
This length-to-height ratio is what causes problems with most wedding invitations. Fortunately, the Post Office has a handy calculator on their website. $0.20 may not sound like much, but it adds up.
Don’t have your invitations yet? You’re in luck! Use this money-saving tip when ordering or creating your invitations to ensure smooth sailing at the Post Office. You’re wedding budget will thank you!
